Calling on volunteers Australia wide.

Volunteers make the world go around and a better place to live. Being part of a community group, sporting facility or on the board of a not for profit can be very rewarding. The Beacon of Light are looking for volunteers to help calm people when they are feeling lonely or blue.

It is no secret that mental health episodes are on the rise, the large organisations are working at capacity and overwhelmed with the increases and in some cases the people who are in a crisis are not getting the support they need.

So, if you are currently a member of a community group, a church, retired or just have spare time, we would like to have you on board. You don’t need to be medically trained and we will provide the mental health first aid required, you just need to lend an ear and to be able to listen non judgementally. Having empathy and time to talk with someone is all that is required at this point.

How does it work

The Beacon of Light provide training to small to medium businesses. This training helps individuals in the micro communities to identify when someone may be in a crisis or having a mental episode. This could be as simple as a friends, family or colleagues are at breaking point and need someone to talk to.

We would have your details to be able to talk with these people to calm them down and direct them where possible (this is not an intervention; we leave that for the professionals).

Sometimes a simple 10 minute conversation could be the difference for someone feeling lonely to feeling supported.

If you think this sounds like something you would be interested in and would like to know more, please email

The Facts

Did you know that with in the next 12 months 20% of all Australians will experience a mental episode? And a staggering 50% of all Australians will in a lifetime?

In 2018 an average of 8.3 people took their own life a day in Australia. In 2013, 6 people a day died by suicide. So it is fair to say that the rate at which Australians are taking their own life are on the increase.

On a global scale approximately 800 000 people a year take there own life, (which equates to one person every 40 seconds and for every one person that takes their own life, 20 others attempt suicide).

At Beacon Fight for Life we are passionate about reducing the amount of Australians that take their own life daily.

Please kindly donate so we can help the Australian and the Multicultural communities through these tough times.
